Most families begin the conversation with a course name. It is a natural starting point — courses are visible, comparable and easy to discuss.

But a course is a means, not a destination. When the direction is unclear, the course choice carries the whole weight of the decision, and that is a lot to ask of it.

Starting with the student — interests, strengths, aspirations — narrows the field before the shortlist begins. The course decision then becomes a smaller, calmer decision.
